In the annual tradition of the Indian Welcome Evening, the India Platform decided to invite all the Indian students and staff at Ghent University to an intellectual discussion followed by an informal Indian dinner. The theme of the evening was something all of us have been confronted with but few of us have understood: the phenomenon of terrorism. As a basis for the discussion, we proposed to read some of the articles the members of the India Platform had been writing. All of them could be found online and most of the participants indeed came prepared. The conclusion of this evening was that regular intellectual discussion sessions would be welcomed enthousiastically by many of the Indian students and staff in Ghent. It was agreed upon that discussions should focus on themes that concern both Indians and Europeans. The evening thus was the first session in the series of “India Platform Discussion Evenings”.
